The list of winners for the inaugural “Taoyuan City Gold Medal Enterprise Excellence Award” was announced on December 31, 2019. Taoyuan City Mayor Cheng Wen-Tsan presented five awards, including the “Star of Intelligence Award,” “Earth-Loving Award,” “Good Fortune Enterprise Award,” “Invisible Champion Award,” and “Newcomer of the Year Award,” to 16 winning enterprises. These include well-known companies such as TSMC, GIGABYTE, and Tai Yi Fong, with a combined total capital of up to 268 billion NTD, shining brightly in the spotlight.

The Director of the Taoyuan City Government’s Department of Economic Development, Guo Yuxin, stated that the Taoyuan government has been building the “Taoyuan Gold Medal” brand since 2015, which includes the “Gold Medal Good Shops,” “Gold Medal Good Gifts,” and “Gold Medal Good Hub,” among others. The “Taoyuan City Gold Medal Enterprise Excellence Award” has been held for 12 editions since 2018, and in 2019, they introduced the inaugural “Taoyuan Gold Medal Enterprise Excellence Award,” which can be seen as “Enterprise Excellence Award 2.0.” The awarded enterprises not only represent their respective industries with distinction but also elevate the branding and marketing of local businesses in Taoyuan, making the city’s industrial advantages more prominent and aligned with the global stage.

Guo mentioned that the competition for this event was fierce, with over 90 applications received. A selection committee composed of nearly 30 members from industry, government, and academia spent three months in the evaluation process, which included document review, on-site visits by the committee members to the companies, and a final review. The goal is to showcase and recognize the excellence of Taoyuan’s local elite businesses and encourage more enterprises to stand out.

To encourage outstanding local businesses, the Taoyuan Gold Medal Enterprise Excellence Award is divided into five categories based on the nature of the awards: “Star of Intelligence Award,” “Earth-Loving Award,” “Good Fortune Enterprise Award,” “Invisible Champion Award,” and “Newcomer of the Year Award.” Additionally, gender equality regulations are incorporated into the evaluation criteria for each award, resulting in six companies receiving the “Taoyuan City Gold Medal Enterprise Gender Equality Award.” The Taoyuan City government aims to use this event to acknowledge businesses that have long been dedicated to Taoyuan and to encourage innovative sparks brought by emerging industries, thereby driving the overall development and competitiveness of Taoyuan’s industries.

The “Gold Medal Enterprise” award trophy was specially designed and crafted by the renowned local ceramics manufacturer, " ACERA," and is a unique design in Taiwan. Its design is inspired by a central pillar and features an upward-slanting angle, adorned with auspicious cloud patterns on the cup, symbolizing that Taoyuan’s Gold Medal Excellence Enterprises are propelling the city’s industries to thrive continuously and prosper without end.

The inaugural “Invisible Champion Award” was presented to three Taiwanese enterprises, Taiwan Hua jie, Dynasty Aerotech, and Yuanyou, which, despite maintaining a low profile, hold a significant position in key industries or technologies. They play an indispensable role in driving the economic development of Taoyuan City.

The “Earth-Loving Award” was granted to four companies, including TSMC, Sea Mild Biotech, E&E Recycling, and O'right, for their focus on green energy and environmental protection. They have aligned themselves with the green economy trend, propelling Taoyuan toward becoming a green city.

The “Good Fortune Enterprise Award” was presented to Tai Yi Fong, MedFirst, and GIGABYTE Technology. They believe that “employees are a company’s most important asset.” Through the establishment of employee benefit systems and a focus on employee training, they have created a high-quality working environment for Taoyuan’s labor force.

Finally, the “Newcomer of the Year Award” was given to three enterprises, Yeezen Hospital, Hsieh Shun Industrial, and PurpleSeed, which represent entrepreneurs who started from scratch in Taoyuan and the second generation taking over family businesses. They are not only courageous young entrepreneurs but also the driving force behind Taoyuan’s continuous improvement, ensuring that the local industries remain competitive in the long term.
