Climate change is becoming increasingly serious. Net-zero carbon emissions have become a global consensus. Low-carbon issues are receiving great international attention. The just-concluded COP 28 also had a more in-depth discussion on the process of carbon reduction in heavy industry. More than 90% of Taiwan's companies are small and medium-sized enterprises. It plays an important role in the global supply chain system and will also face great pressure to reduce carbon emissions. Since its establishment in March 2023, the "LCIA Low Carbon Industry Sustainable Development Alliance" has actively connected resources from industry, government, academia and research, and assisted small and medium-sized enterprises in reducing carbon reduction knowledge through workshops and the carbon inventory digital tool "Carbon Intelligence". Understand the threshold and deeply participate in the practical operation of industrial carbon reduction through factory visits to understand the key pain points of low-carbon transformation of Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises, and then provide the successful experience of members' transformation to enterprises as solutions to accelerate carbon reduction actions in green supply chains. The Onward80 project promoted by LCIA in 2023 was jointly announced with other small and medium-sized enterprises through a coaching project. The carbon reduction is estimated to be 3209.50 tons of CO2e, which is more than the carbon absorption of 22 Taichung Metropolitan Parks. The results are remarkable.

In order to showcase its fruitful results and valuable experience in corporate coaching, LCIA specially held the "Onward 80 Low Carbon Joint Achievements Exhibition" today, inviting the guiding units "Taichung City Government" and "Taichung City Industrial Policy Council" to provide coaching technical energy legal entities " Metal Industry Research and Development Center" and "Industrial Technology Research Institute", 20 industry associations and important academic representatives witnessed the carbon reduction actions jointly performed by LCIA and corporate members this year, in order to commend corporate members for their active participation in carbon reduction We also thank all levels of government for their full assistance and all schools, research units and consultant groups for their full support to achieve today's important results.

This achievement exhibition also specially displays the carbon inventory reports completed by 30 of them with LCIA guidance. These corporate members participated in LCIA's coaching program to conduct Category 1 and 2 carbon inventories and used the "Carbon Smart" carbon inventory digital tool developed by LCIA. In addition to being open to LCIA members for free, "Carbon Intelligence" directly saves each company's carbon inventory execution cost, which starts at nearly 100,000 yuan. Through the system's built-in examples and AI information generation mechanism, it can also be quickly understood by manufacturers who fill in the form. Various data contents required for the inventory process lower the threshold for knowledge understanding for small and medium-sized enterprises, so that the overall inventory time can be effectively reduced by 50%. Taking the carbon inventory report on display as an example, each company only needs 2 to 3 weeks on average to complete the maintenance of inventory data, saving a total of nearly 3 million yuan in inventory costs, and can also get consultant visits provided by LCIA. Factory consulting services provide customized suggestions for enterprises, so that enterprises no longer need to wait and see, and can easily and efficiently complete the basic inventory work of categories 1 and 2, and are more willing to invest in low-carbon transformation actions.

According to the "Taiwan Small and Medium Enterprises Transformation Current Situation and Needs Survey" released by PricewaterhouseCoopers(PwC Taiwan) in 2022, only 17.1% of Taiwan's small and medium-sized enterprises stated that they have implemented carbon reduction actions to implement the net-zero carbon emission business philosophy. Therefore, more than 80% of small and medium-sized enterprises still have No action has been taken on net-zero carbon emissions, which shows that there is still considerable room for growth in the overall response capabilities of small and medium-sized enterprises to net-zero carbon emissions. LCIA has accompanied many small and medium-sized enterprises in the past year, from understanding what low carbon is to taking the first step of carbon health inspection. Through the factory visit process of the coaching consultant team, we have seen the process and carbon emission links in the metal processing industry chain. various needs and collected a lot of valuable industry experience. Looking forward to 2024, the low-carbon implementation technical guidance planned by LCIA 2.0 will be more accurately and clearly aligned with the practical needs of the industry, providing more appropriate solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises in the low-carbon transformation process, and achieving the goal of a low-carbon green supply chain. One step further.
